How to choose sunglasses?

Against the harsh sun, against annoying insect infestations, but also against wind or mud. Cycling glasses will protect you against all that. So it's not that you don't need sunglasses when it's cloudy outside. Take them on every ride, training, hike, period.

Sunglasses are an important part of cycling equipment and choosing the right pair can improve your cycling experience while protecting your eyes from damage. But how do you choose the right ones? And is one pair enough? And what kind of lens will you need?

You will find a lot of information about the different adjustments, filters, transmittance, and even types of lenses for our sunglasses. How to find out?

Let's start with the filter categories. The filter is usually from 0-3 and on most of our sunglasses you will find the number 3, which indicates that the sunglasses are designed for bright and sunny weather. The sunglasses are tinted and provide a high degree of protection against sunlight. Category 2 is suitable for everyday wear, but also for spring or autumn when the weather is changeable and when the sun and shade often alternate. Category 1 is suitable when it is cloudy and overcast, as these sunglasses are very lightly tinted. They are also excellent as protection against wind or dust. Transmittance is also related to the filter category, where the lower the filter, the higher the light transmission.

You already know about filters, and how do you know which lens will be good for spring, for example, when the sun is shining one minute and it's cloudy the next? Check out our lens range:

- classic black lens: is a standard dark lens with an anti-scratch treatment

- contrast lens: filters out some of the blue light and makes colours and details look natural

- photochromic lens: darkens and lightens depending on the intensity of ultraviolet light, i.e. the lens darkens at higher light levels and lightens automatically at lower light levels

- polarising lens: transmits only positive vertical waves, vision through it is comfortable, contrasty, and without unpleasant glare

Each FORCE lens has an anti-scratch treatment to prevent scratching and most lenses also have an anti-fog treatment to prevent fogging. For photochromic and polarized glasses, we use an oleophobic treatment that offers even more protection against scratching and fogging. You can find them under the title PHOTOCHROM+ and POLARON+. You can also find AUREA+ treatment with contrast lenses which is an oleophobic treatment against grease and dirt deposits and also increases water repellency and prevents scratching of the glass. The H2FOBIC treatment is then a basic hydrophobic treatment that increases water and dirt repellency and again prevents scratching of the glass.

All our sunglasses have UV 400 and polycarbonate glass, which is durable and offers much more safety during sports compared to normal glass.

FORCE TIP: Always try on your sunglasses, preferably with the helmet you'll be wearing them with, as it can be easy for them not to fit together.
