After Biniam Girmay's phenomenal victory in the 10th stage, probably only a true optimist expected another triumph in such a great style. And yet, a week later, here it is!
Saló – Aprica, is the most difficult stage of this year's Giro d´Italia, 202 km combined with 5250 altitude meters, including the legendary climb to Mortirolo.
Jan Hirt did a great job in the breakaway and his big effort graduated in the final uphill of Valico di Santa Cristina, where Jan left all rivals behind. The long and dangerous descent to the finish line kept us all in a huge tension, which fizzled out when Jan crossed the finish line.
"I overcame several obstacles, I felt pain everywhere, but my desire to win this stage was incredibly strong," Jan said immediately after the finish.
And now we are asking - what else will the final stages of this year's Giro bring?
