Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert Matériaux and Force are rocking it this year. On Wednesday, April 6, the team scored its sixth win of the year. It happened in Scheldeprijs, Belgium. Less than two weeks after the great victory of Biniam Girmay, there is another success. This time it was Norwegian rider Alexander Kristoff, who won the windy classic in Scheldeprijs, Belgium, in a solo attack.
It was the first time in seventeen years that Scheldeprijs did not end in a mass spurt. With 7 kilometres to go there was no doubt about the winner. Alexander Kristoff completely dominated the 110th edition of this race, breaking away from the group of riders and riding off in the rain to claim his second victory in this Flemish classic. The last time he did so was in 2015. Less than half a minute behind Kristoff, Danny van Poppel won the sprint of the chase group. Sam Welsford finished third.
Alexander Kristoff commented on his victory: Alexander Kristoff: "This is my first solo win as a pro! I attacked 7 kilometres from the finish because I was in a hurry, I had to catch my plane home after 2 weeks in Belgium. See you in Paris-Roubaix!"
